Designed and deployed a GPU-accelerated Windows 11 virtual workstation using direct PCIe passthrough and hardware-accelerated NVENC streaming.

A dedicated Windows 11 VM configured for stable GPU-accelerated remote desktop and gaming workloads.

The same physical infrastructure had to provide isolated GPU resources, native drivers, bridged networking and low-latency remote access.

Device isolation, VM configuration, native NVIDIA drivers, bridged networking and dedicated graphics resources.

Infrastructure changes were applied incrementally and validated against GPU visibility, driver state, network connectivity and streaming behavior.

Proxmox VE, KVM/QEMU, VFIO, IOMMU, Windows 11, NVIDIA GTX 1070, NVENC, Sunshine, Moonlight and Linux bridge networking.

GPU passthrough, driver state, streaming behavior and resource allocation were validated after configuration changes.

Stable GPU-accelerated Windows virtualization with low-latency access to the full desktop environment.

OPERATIONAL RESULT

A usable remote Windows environment.

  • Converted a physical GPU host into an isolated Windows 11 workstation that supports both remote productivity and gaming workloads.
  • Validated the complete path from VM resource allocation and native drivers to low-latency remote desktop streaming.
  • Demonstrates practical infrastructure troubleshooting and the ability to make constrained hardware reliably usable across a network.

VIRTUALIZATION / SYSTEMS DEPTH

Dedicated resources, verified end to end.

  • VM allocation: 8 vCPU cores, 32 GB RAM and a 512 GB virtual disk.
  • Dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 ITX with 8 GB VRAM passed through directly over PCIe.
  • Configured Proxmox VE, KVM/QEMU, VFIO, IOMMU, native NVIDIA drivers, Linux bridge networking and NVENC.
  • Sunshine served as the streaming host and Moonlight as the remote client.
  • GPU visibility, driver state, network connectivity, resource allocation and streaming behavior were validated after configuration changes.
